OUR STORY

The Cornish Larder came from very humble beginnings, starting in founder Jake’s parents’ kitchen.

Having grown up in Cornwall and spent many years cooking in hotels across the county, Jake wanted to create a business that celebrated the amazing food and drink that this area produces.

“We could do this as a business!”

Founders Jake & Abi came up with the idea when creating Christmas presents for their family in 2017.

In February of 2018 Jake started testing recipes and producing small batches from home whilst Abi created all the branding that you still see today.

September 2018

We managed to join a local food distributor who helped us get our products within farm shops, deli’s and tourist attractions.

December 2018

We found a local hotel who allowed us to rent a kitchen once a week to increase our production. With numerous Christmas markets and wholesale growing, it was a very overwhelming time!

July 2019

Still only a team of two, both with part time jobs, we were supplying over 50 stockists and now had two distributors.

November 2019

We launched ā€œTaste of Cornwallā€, a monthly four course meal celebrating food and drink you would find within our local farmers markets and delis.

February 2020

We began renting our own unit near Padstow and built a production facility.

June 2020

After a challenging few months due to Covid, we entered our Onion Chutney, Tomato Relish and Strawberry Jam into Taste of the West and all three came back with awards!

Onion and Tomato won GOLD and Strawberry Jam got commended! We were over the moon.

April - May 2021

We received a phone call that would change everything. We were asked to supply the delegates of the G7 Summit with our Spiced Apple and St Ives Cider Chutney! This was HUGE!

June 2021

We continued to grow our brand awareness and were now in over 100 shops and deli’s, not only in Cornwall but nationwide.

We had also entered the rest of our products into the 2021 Taste of the West awards and every single one won an award.

September 2021

In September we hired our very first employee! Lauren, who was in charge of production, had a long background in cooking.

October 2021

We launched on Not On The High Street in October which hugely increased our online sales.

December 2021

We found a brand new 1500sq foot unit for which we needed help funding. Through our crowdfunder campaign, we managed to raise just over £6000!

February 2022

We finally got the keys to unit!!! The hard work of getting it ready began.

April 2018

We launched our products (originally fudge, shortbread and chutney) within local farmers markets and food festivals. Our packaging was very homemade and our table was simply a few upside down wooden crates.
